Intent:
The teaching of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is vital in supporting pupils as they grow and develop and become successful members of wider society. Our intent is for our children to leave Collingwood Primary School with the age appropriate knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions so that they can successfully manage a wide variety of aspects in their everyday lives.
Implementation:
Knowledge Organisers for each cohort have been created with guidance from the PSHE Association and these have been reviewed during 2023-2024.
National Curriculum Expectations for KS1 and 2:
During key stages 1 and 2, PSHE education offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. PSHE education helps pupils to manage the physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.
