Intent:
Our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed to meet the local Agreed Syllabus for maintained schools in Essex, whilst supporting the needs of the majority of pupils who lack experience of a range of faiths and traditions and may be daunted by the prospect of giving personal opinions on their own views and responses to the differing views of others.
Our intent is to:
Promote understanding of world religions and non-faith perspectives, including Christianity and Humanism, in order to broaden the pupil’s experiences and reflect the wider community.
Teach pupils to reflect on and respond to significant aspects of human experience, including approaches to faith and religion
Teach pupils to recognise that people see things in different ways and respect the right of others to hold views that are different from their own
Support pupils to respect, engage with, analyse, interpret and evaluate the views of others
Implementation:
RE at Collingwood Primary School is based on Saffron Academy Trust RE curriculum, which is taught through a question-based discussion approach. We value R.E. because it promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society.
RE is taught in clear blocks shown on the planning document. Each class is expected to have a ‘floor book’ (whole class book) which is updated after teaching and may include any examples of work, key vocabulary taught, information shared or retained from previous learning. The book will then move on with the pupils to the next year group in order to revisit previous learning and support clear links being made across learning.
