PSHE/RSE Curriculum Information
The teaching of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is vital in supporting pupils as they grow and develop and become successful members of wider society. Our intent is for our children to leave Collingwood Primary School with the age appropriate knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions so that they can successfully manage a wide variety of aspects in their everyday lives.
Implementation
National Curriculum expectations:
KS1 and KS2: During key stages 1 and 2, PSHE education offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. PSHE education helps pupils to manage the physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.
Collingwood’s Curriculum Policy and School Aims, can be found on the policies page of this website. An overview of what is being taught to each year group can be found on separate Class Pages on this website ("Children" tab drop down menu) and guidance on more personalised learning eg spellings, times tables and reading, can be found in your child's own "Supporting Learning Book" which should be kept in their book bag and go between home and school each day. If you would like to know more, please ask at the office and our Class teachers or Subject Leads will be happy to contact you.
The Department for Education specified that all Primary age children will be taught Relationships and Health Education from September 2020. Further information can be found by clicking below.
